On location in Pennsylvania filming PLAYING FOR TIME  with the great American playwright Arthur Miller who wrote the script from Fania Fenelon’s true life story.

A break in filming from PLAYING FOR TIME:  With the zany, wonderful MELANIE MAYRON, the extraordinary VANESSA REDGRAVE, the brilliant fabulous American film director DANIEL MANN  and me.   Danny Mann’s preparation for the actors in every scene I was in was artistry. Our actress ensemble was in character every moment.  Every actress he directed in a film won an Academy Award.  Vanessa won an Emmy since this was shown on television in the United States but released as a feature film in Europe.  Our hair is starting to grow back!

While in High School I went alone to see SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS directed by Elia Kazan. It was playing at a local movie theatre.  I read in one my many movie magazines that Warren Beatty studied with Stella Adler and I planned to apply to her class.  So I went to see him. But the performance that shook me up was that of the actress, Barbara Loden, who played his sister.  I had never heard of her before.  I was brought up to be a proper young lady; shy and inhibited.  Barbara’s raw, truthful, and daring physical life in the film was breathtaking to me. I wanted that freedom as an actress.  Years later when I was studying with Paul Mann, she came to a class. I didn’t know until then, that she had been a student of Paul's for many years and would always return to class.  Later still Barbara and I worked together in Scene Study and went to morning ballet classes.  We became friends. Watching her was an acting lesson.
